About the Art

"Inside all of us there are flickering moments where a shape unfolds, expresses itself, and then folds, almost imperceptibly, into something else. My task is to see these shapes, hold them in my mind and translate each dreamlike detail into tangibility.

“The work is built up in layers. A series of tiny, incremental shapes accumulates to reveal the whole. I work slowly, deliberately, systematically, and allow half-conscious choices to guide my hands and disrupt patterns of accretion.  One process may be repeated over and over to generate countless unique works."

About the Artist

Portrait of the ArtistIan is a Boston based Artist and sometimes teacher with a studio in Waltham, Massachusetts. With a background in jewelry and metalsmithing techniques, his work tends towards precious metal developed on the small scale. His current fascinations range across the arts and sciences and include evolutionary biology, information aesthetics, avante-garde economics, quantum mechanics, physiognomy, game design, social networks, and mycology - all of which find their way into his aesthetic explorations.
