Pre-Hype: MassArt Retail Store to carry Something I Made - What will it be?

My Alma Mater, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, is preparing to unveil their new retail store, and they have selected some of my work to appear within when they open this September. However, at this time they have not announced which of my works have been selected.

Sculpture? Jewelry? Something else entirely? We'll just have to wait and see!

This is what the store looks like with nothing inside it:

Green Hand/Museum of Cryptozoology now carrying Zoa Chimerum Rings

If you are in the Portland, Maine area, you may want to check out the Museum of Cryptozoology at 661 Congress Street. It's a fun place to visit, with all kinds of intriguing curiousities. And, starting today, the Green Hand bookstore/giftshop will be carrying a selection of Zoa Chimerum Rings. This is actually my first partnership with a retail outlet, so I'm excited to see how it goes, plus I'm very happy to have the work displayed in the context of Cryptozoology, which I think is quite fitting. Links to the Museum and The Green Hand here and here.

Simple Casting Methods and Explorations

A New 3 week Class at Metalwerx

Tuesdays, August 3rd through 17th

Explore the more intuitive, playful side of molten metal!

Casting doesn't always have to be a technical, scientific process. There are ways of working with molten metal that can be playful, spontaneous, and intuitive.

We will develop surprising and beautiful shapes by pouring molten metal into substrates made from everyday materials like rock salt, broom straw, ice water, sand, and cuttlefish bones. By working with the materials' natural tendencies, rather than against them, we can enjoy the benefits of "controlled chaos" to invent structures and surfaces that we might not otherwise be able to design.

Over the course of three weeks, students will use these different materials to produce a range of unusual textures and shapes in metal. These impromptu forms can then be used as the basis for unique and attractive jewelry.

Art Fridays this Week and Next Week

Come to Downtown Crossing this Friday and next Friday, where where there will be many local Artists displaying their work outside.

Art Fridays is this week

http://www.artfridays.com/

Just a reminder to come to Downtown Crossing this Friday, where I will be selling my work alongside many local Artists. This is an ongoing event that will take place every Friday through October, however, it will be different artist each week and so I will not be participating in all of them.

For directions, further info, and a full list of the artists participating, go here: http://www.artfridays.com/

Note: I wasn't originally supposed to participate in this Friday's events, plus I just dropped off most of my stock for the MassArt Spring Sale (info here), which means I'm currently scrambling to put together enough work for the event. What this means, though, is that everything at Art Fridays will be brand new, never available before anywhere else. Be sure and stop by early so you can be the first to check it out. Mention that you've seen my website for a 20% discount.

Hope to see you there!

Eventually these images will appear in the gallery of this site, but in the meantime I'm putting them up on the blog until I can figure out a good way to overhaul the image gallery at this website.

Announcing "Exquisite What?"

at FPAC Gallery, Boston

Ian Henderson and Clint Fulkerson
March 12-April 16, 2010

Opening Reception:
Thursday, March 18, 2010 5:30-8pm
Artists' Presentation:
Friday, March 26, 2010 7:00pm

Exquisite What? brings the spirit of blind collaboration into sculptural process, as the Surrealists did for writing and drawing with their famous game,"Exquisite Corpse".

The objects are small, delicate, and personal. They are tiny worlds unto themselves, created through a playful and labor-intensive metal sculpting process which the artists refer to as "Exquisite Wax". This process combines elements in the spirit of mail art, surrealist parlour games, and topiary. Form is developed intuitively and incrementally, a product of two minds subtly directing and redirecting one another.

The Art is viewed under magnification in enclosed containers, which resemble the handling boxes used by scientists and medical researchers. Visitors reach through openings in the cases to handle the work and examine it from all sides. These glove boxes allow for an intimate connection with the work while still protecting the objects from damage or theft.

By touching and inspecting the work, viewers will explore their surfaces in a playful, inquisitive manner that reflects the spirit of their creation.
